When artists come from different contexts, meet and collaborate, a reflection on the background of their artistic practice potentially occurs. In “Balkan Dance Reality Show” four performers who live and work internationally take up the notion of the Balkans as a playground for that. They question their own artistic positions by creating an odd fiction of it. It takes the shape of an atmospheric imagery space, a spectre, a reality show whose doers and makers seem to be the same. And the inevitable questions come out: what is a work of art nowadays? How is it being created, what’s at stake in it, how is it judged and self-reflected? And what is the reality put “on a show” in it after all?
