The first Bulgarian Dance Platform of the International Festival Antistatic brings together 13 performances that have altered the contemporary dance stage in the recent years

From April 20th to April 30th the 11th edition of the International Festival for Contemporary Dance and Performance Antistatic takes place in Sofia, Bulgaria and in 2018 it declares a “state of emergency”. However, it turns out that for the festival’s initiators – the artists Iva Sveshtarova, Willy Prager and Stephan A. Shtereff – this means a state close to euphoria as they manage to organize the first Bulgarian Dance Platform in the history of Antistatic.

In the span of four days, from April 27th to April 30th, some of the most successful and intriguing productions created in the recent years – 13 performances in total – will be presented in front of the Bulgarian audience and specially invited international guests.  Their authors are some of the most vigorous Bulgarian artists in the field of contemporary dance and performance, including both: emerging artists and established choreographers, collectives and companies.

The program of the first day begins with Ivo Dimchev’s AVOIDING deLIFEath and concludes with his LIVE Concert. Between the two, the audience is invited to get acquitted with the emerging choreographer Marion Durova’s work MAINSTREAM and to enjoy the Burlesque performance NEON of Garage Collective (Zhana Pencheva, Aleksandar Georgiev and Irena Tzvetanova)

April 28th is reserved for the movement based performance GOLEM of Anna Dankova, followed by FLAPSƎ of the established choreographer Jivko Jeliazkov and by Iva Sveshtarova and Willy Prager’s SHAMEBOX (just awarded with ICARUS by the Union of the Bulgarian Artists for contemporary dance and performance category).

On the third day of the program, April 29th, The International Dance Day, The Bulgarian Dance Platform introduces us to the work of Asen Nakov, Philip Milanov and Angelina Gavrilova, whose individual miniatures come together in AN EVENING OF YOUNG CHOREOGRAPHERS OF ARABESQUE BALLET. Next are: SYNCRONICITY by Stanislav Genadiev and MADAME KIFLÁby Miroslava Zahova.

April 30th is the day to experience IMPOSSIBILITY IN ITS PUREST FORM | FRAGMENTS IN MOTIONof the choreographer Stefaniya Georgieva and SALOME by Miroslav Yordanov. The program of The Bulgarian Dance Platform concludes with Galina Borissova’s latest work THE STORY OF YESTERDAY.

Bringing together all of these dance artists offers a rare opportunity for an intense encounter with one of the most innovative art forms of today. In order not to miss it and to experience the many faces of the contemporary performance art in Bulgaria, selectioners and directors of leading artistic spaces across Europe are arriving in Sofia particularly for The Bulgarian Dance Platform. Among them are representatives of the European Dance House Network, the director of one of the most influential European dance festivals, ImPulsTanz, representatives of Nomad Dance Academy, Tanzfabrik Berlin, The fabric Potsdam, etc.
